The STARband protective helmets are especially used in cases like open craniosynostosis surgeries (CVR), etc., to protect the head against impacts on the skull after surgery. STARband protective helmets can also preserve the status of the skull, or to prevent a deformation that may occur after the operation. Protective helmets can be easily applied to any patient regardless of age including, infants, children, or adults. Patients may require protective helmets for several reasons such as trauma, epilepsy, and so on.
STARband protective orthoses are more economical than STARband family cranial remolding orthoses. Since STARband protective orthoses are not used to correct head shape abnormalities or asymmetry, they do not need to have adjustments made after the fitting as much as STARband corrective helmets. As with STARband corrective helmets, 3-D scanning is also used to obtain images of skulls for STARband protective helmets.
Protective helmets are mainly used to maintain the current condition and proper development of skulls, which have been manually corrected with cranial vault recontructin surgery, otherwise known as open surgery.
